Can you believe it? More schools delayed due to mold. The Washington Junior High school day was cancelled when the school flunked its atmosphere test. Mold was found in the gym.

Cedar Rapids St. Jude’s Catholic School is also closed for mold, although they have managed to keep the daycare dry, so it is unaffected.

These two are in Iowa. Experts blame the mold on moisture and high humidity they’ve had this summer along, and I agree.

The Iowa Department of Education provides links referring to information about indoor air quality, asthma, allergies, mold, sick building syndrome, and children’s health protection.

If this is your situation too, and you’re in California, you might want to give us a call and see about getting an assessment from Byebyemold.

The South Carolina Department of Education stopped addressing facility conditions five years ago, so when there is mold, the Education Department has no authority over existing facilities, Years ago they would help address problems brought to us by assessing a facility and recommending actions.

It is up to individual school districts to maintain school buildings and their related equipment and systems when mold is found in a school. The district should get that facility and
its systems evaluated by an mechanical engineering firm that has extensive experience air quality assessments and air handling systems.

Jesse Stuart Elementary and Southside Elementary School have both been harboring mold due, maintenance thinks, to moisture accumulating after hours when systems are shut off. The health department has made it a requirement to check the moisture content of the carpeting in both schools, and if the schools flunk the moisture reading, they will be following EPA guidelines to rip the carpet out.

No health problems have been reported. Yet.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority settled $9.5M on Ebony Gage, a 12 year old whose asthma and brain damage stemmed from hazardous, moldy conditions in the property managed by PHA.

PHA blames the Section 8 property owner and management company. After the property failed inspections, PHA gave the family 30 days notice, at which time Ebony had the Asthma attack. 2 Million will come from the landlord and management company.

In our day and time, a topic has never really arrived until it has hit the silver screen, and it appears that now mold has arrived. No, no one has done a remake of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes with mold as the rampaging overgrowth, but mold indeed figures in a movie entitled Brooklyn’s Finest.

Mold figures predominantly in one of the primary character’s lives.

Liv Taylor is pregnant with twins, and her obstetrician warns her that she is endangering her pregnancy as long as she lives in a mold-infested residence. Perhaps someone should have told her to call Byebyemold to verify his diagnosis.

Yes, it is true, the evil in the movie clip below is a tomato evil, not a mold evil. But one can surely watch it and imagine the day when mold, too, will have a starring role in a film.

So, even though the government and science don’t have their act together where mold is concerned, apparently the director of Brooklyn’s Finest, Antoine Fuqua, does.
