Yes Virginia There Is Mold Illness

“DEAR EDITOR: I am XX (shhh!) years old. (more or less)
“Some of my little friends say mold is harmless.
“My lawyer says, ‘If you see it in THE COURTROOM it’s so.’
“Please tell me the truth; is mold Harmless?

“VIRGINIA FUNGUSAMONGUS.
“115 WEST SICK BUILDING STREET.”

VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. The courtroom only believes what they can prove. They think that nothing can be which is not defined by their (spandex) briefs. All minds, Virginia, whether they be adult’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, VIRGINIA, mold can be harmful. Mycotoxins and allergies exist as certainly as allergic reactions, mold allergy, sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, tearing and redness of the eyes, skin irritation, rash, asthma attacks, antibodies, difficulty breathing, memory loss, lethargy, pulmonary hemorrhage, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and you may know firsthand how they abound and drag to your life to its lowest malaise and impairment. Alas! how healthier would be the world if there were no illness from mold. It would be as healthy as if there were no aflatoxins, Fusarium, Chaetomium and Stachybotrys chartarum. There would be no pulmonary hemosiderosis, no toxic tort, no toxic mold lawsuit against the developers and contractors to help cover the doctor’s bills. Instead, we have absolute mold exclusions, insurers pushing denial of coverage for toxic mold claims clouding the eternal light with which Lady Justice (is supposed to) fill the world.

Not believe in mold illness! You might as well not believe in cancer and death! You might see your opposing council hire experts to seek and document and testify to harmlessness in all the mold, but even if they deny it, what would that prove? Nobody proves the link between illness and mold, but that is no sign that there is no link. The most real things in the world are those that neither lawyers nor scientists can see. Did you ever the wind in the trees? Of course not, but that’s not proof that it isn’t there. Nobody can legally provide empirical proof all that is unseen and unseeable and plausibly denied in the world. So it goes in the courtroom.

You may tear apart the claim and try to cloud the issue, but there is a logical connection between mold exposure and mold-related illness which not the sneakiest legal doubletalk, nor even the united strength of medical deny-ers that ever lived, can sidestep. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA Fungusamongus, in all this world there is nothing else so real and abiding as mold-related illness.

No Mold Illness! Alas! it is, and it is forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, lawyers will still be plausibly denying perfectly legitimate claims.
